In Level III you will learn computer hardware design, computer architecture and computer software design. In the computer hardware design your knowledge of hardware systems is taken to another level. In this course you will learn how complex systems such as MP3 players or peripheral devices such as hard disk drives are built as whole systems.

What Computer Hardware Engineers Do

The digital logic will give you the opportunity to learn the basics of how the modern computers are organized and built. In the microprocessors course you will learn the language of embedded systems, machine-level code as well as how are all of those microchips in cell phones and MP3 players are designed. There are certifications available on a wide variety of computer engineering topics. You can learn skills from managing network switches to implementing cryptographic security. These certifications are offered by professional organizations, companies and nonprofits.

Current Students

Each machine of this lab provides specialized software in addition to general purpose software design and application. This laboratory is dedicated for core computing and signal processing courses. Students can get maximum benefit by having hands-on experience by utilizing the latest workstations and simulation tools and training kits required for the completion of experimental work. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems. The BS in Computer Engineering prepares students to become engineers who understand both sides of the hardware-software interface, from designing circuits to developing operating systems. The computer engineering undergraduate program combines the best of the School of Engineering with Brown's world-class Department of Computer Science.

Graduate Programs:

As electrical engineers you rein in electrons, guide them through the devices we depend on every day — whether they are very small or very large . Students without math or physics A-levels may be admissible based on AS-level or iGCSE/GCSE/O-Level exam results. Curriculum content, pre- and co-requisite structures, and learning activities and laboratory assignments must be designed to reflect and support this framework. Specific mathematical content must include the principles and techniques of discrete structures; furthermore, students must master the established sequence in differential and integral calculus. A master’s in computer engineering could provide greater job opportunities for graduates. These programs may provide opportunities to learn advanced topics in engineering.

Some computer engineers focus more on hardware and updating old equipment, while others focus on designing new technologies. Advanced degrees provide greater opportunity in the computer engineering field. There are some advanced degree programs available for computer engineers. Software engineers may also benefit from advanced degrees in their field.

Their work is similar to the work of electronics engineers in that they may design and test circuits and other electronic components; however, computer hardware engineers do that work only as it relates to computers and computer-related equipment.
